Hi, I’m Caitlin!

I took a quilting class when I was 10 and didn’t think about quilts again for two decades.

But then the 2020 coronavirus pandemic hit, and during my time at home, I was struck with the desire to make a whole-cloth quilt out of hand-dyed linen. I envisioned cloud quilting across the entire surface. Once I have my mind made up to do something, I am pretty single-minded, so using the same machine I used during my childhood quilting class, I had it done within a few weeks. I found working with textiles and hand quilting were so satisfying that I couldn’t wait to start on the next project. I use quilts as an opportunity to think about how I can use color and pattern to craft the right vibe and turn each quilt into an emotional experience.

For me, quilting is about feeling connected. I own quilts made by my great grandmother’s hands that help me feel close to my ancestors. I feel deeper kinship with my mom, an experienced quilter who is always willing to help me and offer advice. I feel united with the generations of women who necessarily made artful quilts out of nothing. And I feel closely connected to those I make quilts for as I choose fabrics, develop patterns, and hand stitch designs I know will be meaningful to them.
