King of the Pond Quilt - November 2022

Machine pieced, hand quilted, hand dyed

This quilt was an entry to the 2022 Eileen Fisher Renew Chop Challenge. Using unfixable linen garments from EF Renew, I custom dyed the fabric and made it into this half-square-triangle quilt of stars, inspired by a local frog pond. I basted it to a vintage bed sheet and then hand stitched lily pads, a camouflaged frog, and ripples.

Marigold Quilt - September 2022

Machine pieced, hand quilted, ice dyed

I made this quilt for a friend’s new baby. I wanted to focus on bringing the energy of the marigold, as this flower is important to my friend. I also found inspiration in falling leaves, in the way the quality of light changes in September, and in the autumn zodiac. The backing is custom ice dyed. Each block has a hand quilted marigold in a matching thread.

Two black astrology cards with gold borders. The top card shows the constellation Libra, the bottom card shows the constellation virgo, partially covered by the top card.

Sockeye Quilt - May 2022

Machine pieced, hand quilted, ice dyed

In order to complete this gift on-time for a soon-to-arrive nephew, I did most of the hand quilting by headlamp on a train to and from Montana. It is the summation of many of the parents’ favorite things. I found inspiration in the flora and fauna of the PNW rainforest, the smell of a summer morning in the woods, and foraging in your own backyard. It is also inspired by this lovely illustration by my friend @cryptdoods.

An illustrated scout patch with a mushroom on it. The mushroom has a red cap with white spots, an off white stem, and grey gills.

Tattooine Quilt - April 2022

Machine pieced, hand quilted, appliquéd

If there is a bright center to the universe, this quilt shows the planet that it’s farthest from. My partner requested this quilt for his Star-Wars-Loving-Bestie’s new baby. Inspired by the planet where Luke Skywalker grew up, I used the @SkyCladQuilts method for creating these overlapping horizons. I then hand quilted to give it extra visual interest.

Maze Quilt - March 2022

Machine pieced, machine and hand quilted, ice dyed

For this baby quilt, I wanted to evoke the lines of a maze while keeping the design very simple and clean. There is fabric that represents mom and dad’s background, and crossed fingers for luck. I ice dyed the back to give a dreamy, cloud-like feel. Lastly, I hand quilted soot-sprites into the design before machine quilting lines to bring whimsy and movement into the piece.
